Good News T-Shirt

Good News T-Shirts

From time to time I’ll search for the newest trends in t-shirts. Today I searched for “t-shirts in the news” and Google displayed pages of t-shirts with “Good News” printed on them. These are very popular indeed.

“Good news” T-shirts are a steadily popular niche in faith-based, vintage, and positive-message streetwear. Demand is largely driven by modern Christian lifestyle brands, viral social media restocks, and nostalgic graphic trends. But, although the trend may have started with faith-based intent it has since been procured by folks wanting to generate light-hearted positive conversation.

Market Categories and Trends

  • Faith-Based Streetwear: Brands like He Would Love First and Proclamation Coalition routinely sell out and restock minimalist or “paper-boy” themed gospel tees.
  • Positivity and Nostalgia: Slogans focusing on optimism, vintage newspaper aesthetics, or lighthearted sarcasm (“Good News Everyone”) serve as casual comfort wear across independent marketplaces and Amazon.
  • Social Media Influence: Direct-to-consumer apparel lines leverage Instagram and TikTok communities heavily, often tying purchases to charitable missions or crisis support.

From those proclaiming “Good News” t-shirts as faith:

The cross of Jesus is good news! The cross of Christ is the best news of all!

In the Christian faith, the terms “Good News” and “Gospel” are often used interchangeably. There’s good reason for that since they both translate the same Greek word from the New Testament into English.

But even though it’s been re-purposed as simply a secular positive spin message worn to spread a good-hearted message, there are those who find it somehow irritating as they would rather celebrate a more gloomy message. I mean really? Lighten up Francis!

This compels me to re-visit a topic I’ve often thought about – the preoccupation with bad news! Ever listen to the news and wonder if there is any good news in the world? Not to be a shallow Polly-Anna but gimme a break. Nothing? Many news sources proclaim they define news as bad, and admit their immersion on marginalized people and issues.

Why News Focuses on the Negative

  • Urgent Reporting: Media outlets prioritize dangers, policy fights, and disasters because they carry immediate societal impact.
  • Negativity Bias: Investigative pieces and accountability journalism naturally center on what is broken rather than what is working.
  • Audience Expectations: Newsrooms worry that shifting entirely to lighter subjects might make them look detached from real-world suffering.

One has to wonder if there is a recipe for becoming rich, famous, and happy that we’re not hearing about. If there was, would the news report it? CNBC might tell you about a stock going up…after it’s happened.

There is good news..once in a while. Spread the word.
