
24 Mar How to Fold a T-Shirt
A perfectly folded shirt saves space in your dresser and prevents wrinkles.
Hanging shirts takes up room for other clothes, so folding your favorite tees is better. We will share easy folding techniques to keep your clothes looking fresh.
Things to remember when folding t-shirts:
- The goal is to reduce space in the drawer, or wherever you store it, without wrinkling.
- If it’s a printed t-shirt you want to see the front, or at least the front logo. That way you can distinguish it from others. However, a plain undershirt doesn’t matter.
- If your folding technique takes too long, or requires a table, it is flawed. Best technique is fast and can be done anywhere.
- Always fold your t-shirts right after they come out of the dryer. The longer they sit the more they wrinkle!
It almost seems silly to contemplate folding a t-shirt for more than a minute. But, if you think about it knowing the best way could make your life so much easier. There are 5 in my family with lots of t-shirts and folding the laundry can take hours. Not to mention wearing a wrinkly t-shirt is not an option for me. When I fold my black t-shirts they each have a different design on the front so I like to be able to see right away which one they are.
Most Awesome Fold:
For the most foolproof method try this. It’s the best way to fold in our opinion because it shows the front of the shirt. So, if you have a lot of colored t-shirts with a print on the front you’ll want to know which one you’re picking out without having to unfold it first.
- Lay the shirt horizontally and face up in front of you with the neck on the right-hand side.
- Using both hands, pinch the shirt on the side opposite you at two points: With one hand at the shoulder, midway between the sleeve and the neck, and the other halfway down the shirt, parallel to your other hand.
- While holding the two points, cross your right hand over your left, bringing the shoulder down to meet the shirt’s bottom hem, and grab the hem.
- Lift the shirt so it hangs in front of you.
- Uncross your arms without letting go of the shirt and pull the fold taut as you do so.
- Place the hanging sleeve on the work surface, and neatly drape the folded portion over to finish.
How to Fold a T-Shirt for Packing
If you’re going on a trip and want to conserve space in your bag, try this method.
- Spread the shirt out on a flat surface with the front facing you.
- Tuck the sleeves back behind the shirt.
- Fold the shirt into thirds horizontally.
- Bring the neckline down an inch from the bottom of the shirt
- Fold the shirt into thirds vertically.
