16 Sep How To Tie a Tie
Here’s a simple guide to tie a basic Four-in-Hand Knot, which is one of the most common tie knots:
1. Drape the Tie
- Start with the tie around your neck, with the wide end on your right and the narrow end on your left.
- The wide end should hang about 12 inches lower than the narrow end.
2. Cross the Wide End Over the Narrow End
- Take the wide end and cross it over the narrow end, forming an “X” near your collar.
3. Loop the Wide End Under
- Bring the wide end behind the narrow end and back to the front on the left side.
4. Wrap Around Again
- Wrap the wide end around the narrow end again, crossing it from left to right.
5. Bring the Wide End Up
- Pull the wide end up through the loop around your neck.
6. Pull Through the Knot
- Tuck the wide end down through the front knot you’ve created.
7. Tighten the Knot
- Hold the narrow end and gently pull the wide end down to tighten the knot.
- Adjust it by sliding the knot up to your collar, making it snug.
